Our Church History
Background and History
Stouffville Memorial Christian Church was established in 1842 and is proud to be Stouffville's longest serving Church. We celebrated 180 years of faithful ministry in June, 2022.
Our Church Story
About two hundred years ago a group of Christians, bewildered by so many religious denominations, shared a vision of the Church restored to a more pure and visible unity. Choosing to be known by the name "Christian" only, they committed themselves to open fellowship and a confidence in the gospel to overcome human divisions in the body of Christ. This small but vibrant movement became known as the "Christian Church" and eventually established a foothold in Canada in the early 1800s. The first Christian Church in Canada was established in Keswick, Ontario in 1821 and is a dynamic fellowship even to this day. Stouffville Christian Church joined this vibrant movement in 1903.
We were honored by the town of Whitchurch Stouffville to have our building designated a heritage site in recognition of our heritage and service to the town. We have always taken pride in the role we played in the history of this town. Our byline, "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, diversity; in all things, charity" speaks of our openness in welcoming all who choose to fellowship with us and share our unique and time honored journey to Jesus Christ. Each Sunday at worship we anticipate receiving deeper insights into God's loving intentions for this community, for his Church, and for each of our lives.
If you do not have a Church family with which to worship regularly, we invite you to pay us a visit. We would cherish the opportunity to be a part of your spiritual journey of faith. May God richly bless you!
